After talking to my hubs about the decabling situation, he said the reason he doesn't want to try Boxee, is that you have to sign in to an online account? (I have no idea) and he feels they might be spying on what we watch.

Well, they kind of are, but no more than Hulu or Youtube.
Boxee is trying to make TV more social, and allows users to recommend shows to their friends. It is not perfect, but it is pretty good.
